Pace Calculator

Work out your running or walking pace and speed from a distance and time — in minutes per kilometre or per mile.

Your Result

6:00/km

Your pace is 6:00 /km — a speed of 10 km/h.

Pace is simply your time divided by your distance; enter distance in km or miles and the pace matches that unit.

What This Means

Understanding your pace

Pace tells you how long it takes to cover a set distance — most often expressed as minutes per kilometre or minutes per mile. It's the number runners and walkers use to plan and compare efforts, because it stays meaningful whether your run is short or long.

We also show your speed — the distance you'd cover in an hour — which is the same information the other way round. A pace of 6:00 per km is a speed of 10 km/h; a lower pace number means a higher speed.

Use pace to set targets ("I want to hold 5:30 per km"), to pace a race evenly, or to see how training is progressing. It's a tool for planning effort, not a health measurement.

Methodology

How this calculator works

Formula. Pace = time ÷ distance, shown as minutes and seconds per unit; speed = distance ÷ time, per hour. There's no estimation here — it's exact arithmetic, so the only thing that affects the answer is what you enter.

Units. Choose kilometres or miles for the distance, and the pace and speed come back in matching units (min/km with km/h, or min/mile with mph). Enter your time in minutes.

Confidence. We label this high confidence because the calculation is exact. That refers to the maths, not to your training — pace can't tell you how hard a run felt or how fit you are.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Pace is how long it takes to cover one unit of distance (minutes per km or per mile) — lower is faster. Speed is how much distance you cover per hour (km/h or mph) — higher is faster. This calculator shows both.
It matches the distance unit you choose. Enter kilometres and you get minutes per km and km/h; enter miles and you get minutes per mile and mph.
Enter your total time in minutes — for example, 30 for half an hour, or 27.5 for 27 minutes 30 seconds.
